Seeing Scripture Anew
Details
Are You Ready to Read the Bible with New Eyes?
Many of us grew up with simplistic versions of Bible stories – tales of talking animals, heroic figures, and clear-cut morals. But what happens when we approach these ancient narratives with our adult minds, our questions, and our real-world experiences?
This Fall, we invite you to journey with us through Josh Scott's insightful book, "Bible Stories for Grown-ups: Reading Scripture with New Eyes." Get ready to wrestle, question, and discover profound new layers of meaning in familiar tales.
Unpacking Familiar Tales with a Fresh Perspective:
Each week, we'll dive into a well-known Bible story, guided by Josh Scott's thoughtful "grown-up" lens, to explore:
- Noah's Ark: Beyond the rainbow – grappling with divine judgment and human complicity.
- The Binding of Isaac: Wrestling with difficult commands and the nature of radical faith.
- Jonah and the Big Fish: More than a whale of a tale – exploring prejudice and God's expansive compassion.
- Jesus and Zacchaeus: Beyond a simple conversion – discovering radical hospitality and economic justice.
- Jesus Healing a Blind Man: Seeing beyond the miracle – understanding spiritual sight and the journey of faith.
- The Parable of the Talents: Beyond money – considering stewardship, risk, and systemic justice.
